Crafty Weekend: Thanksgiving Activity Book

It is Halloween tonight, yet I am sharing a Thanksgiving book. I guess I am rushing into my holiday season. Sorry for the late start but we had an exciting night of trick-or-treating here. I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween. Today we are sharing a book that is perfect to help kids learn about Thanksgiving and keep them busy whether traveling or during a Thanksgiving celebration. The book is Thanksgiving Activity Book by Karl Jones and illustrated by Joey Chou.

This book has a bit of information about Thanksgiving--historically as well as present and some individual activities like a maze, crossword puzzle and more.

It also has some crafts including traditional ones like making corn husk dolls and leaf placemats.  It even has a Wampanoag game craft. Then there are turkey centerpieces to make. One is a punch out and put together.

I felt a need to jazz it up a bit and used double sided tape and feathers inbetween the front and back layers.
The back was decorated as well, so it can be a true centerpiece.

The other turkey centerpiece requires coloring. Hazel began to color it in. We discussed the choice of gel pens to color it and the smudging since it is a glossy paper. She talked about gluing feathers on to it as well, but she got tired of coloring and has not done the back side yet.

It also had seasonal name tags or food labels for the Thanksgiving table.

The book also has two fall recipes. We made the corn bread for dinner tonight. Everyone loved it!! We are going to try the pumpkin soup tomorrow although Steve probably won't eat it.

At the end of the book there are two pages of stickers. Do you know why President Lincoln is on one of the stickers? The activity book tells you why, but if you want to know before looking it up check out this post.

As you can tell from the stickers there are both past Thanksgiving traditions as well as new ones including football, travel and the parade.

We are planning on making some Thanksgiving cards with the stickers, but it is also a great way to talk about traditions and the history of Thanksgiving. We are having a lot of fun with this simple activity book and are exploring some fun fall crafts as well as trying new recipes. I hope you will check it out!
