Journal Sparks -- a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Disclosure: I was sent this book to review free of charge from Storey Publishing. All opinions in this post are my own. I did not receive any other compensation for this review. I am including links to each item for your convenience but do not receive anything if you purchase them.

Do you need a spark for your creativity? I think every crafter goes through a dry spell. Life gets busy or you just don't feel like creating anything right then. Today's book helps everyone find a little creativity spark. The book is Journal Sparks: Fire Up Your Creativity with Spontaneous Art, Wild Writings and Inventive Thinking  by Emily K. Neuburger.  You may remember Emily K. Neuburger from Show Me a Story

This book provides sixty different activities to do in your journal to help creative juices flow. It provides things to do with paints, writing, and more. There are also interviews with guest journalers including Mariah Bruehl, Meghan Burch, Rachelle Doorley, Diana Mackenzie, Keri Smith, Debbie Way and Robyn Wells. The book starts by asking what is a journal and goes into the supplies you will need and so much more. Then the activities begin. There are many different ideas. The chapters are Observation, Invention, Collection, Color & Construction, Wordsmith, Journal Challenges, and Journal Making & Hacking. At the end of the book there are supplies for some of the projects like the fortune envelope, collage papers and stickers.

The ideas are easy to follow and there are no rules, so there is no right or wrong way to do it. I did several from the Observation section like Color Your Mood. As I sat outside today enjoying the beautiful spring weather, but thinking about the things that I need to get done this week (and have my allergies kick in) I came up with this.

I also tried Horizon from the Invention chapter. I am calling this country house.

This book gives ideas to collect things for inspiration, to create for fun and more. It has so many ideas for everyone. Whether you like to draw, paint or write. There is creating with collage, washi tape and more. It has so many ideas and I have to admit I really was feeling creative and relaxed after trying a few of the ideas.

How do you use your journal? Where do you keep your creative ideas? I hope you will check out this fun book to inspire more creativity in your life!
