Summer Craft Supplies -- a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Disclosure: Oriental Trading sent me these products free of charge in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Looking for ideas of things to do with your kids on those bad weather days this summer? Or perhaps just some things to keep your kids using their creative juices and crafting? Now I am sure you know about Oriental Trading and their fun party supplies and perhaps even their various craft kits, but do you know they also sell craft supplies? Hazel and I checked out their craft supplies together and picked some out to share with you. We chose some basic supplies like paints and washi tape as well as some things to use the paints and washi tape on like frames, a tray, diy journal kits and diy rubber ducks. We have been having fun with all these craft supplies as well as some we already had.

We chose Pearlized Acrylic Paints because we loved the pearlized effect. They have a yellow, pink, red, green, blue and purple bottle. They were sealed and are easy to use.

The paint covered the wood items well with one or two coats. The pearlized effect made some of our items really fun like the DIY Rubber Duckies. Hazel painted one of them with the red and yellow. I combined the red and yellow paints and painted the bill orange of another.
I updated the one I was making by drawing some dot flowers around its necklace and then glued a shell for a hat.

Aren't they cute? I wonder how she will decorate the rest of them!! We also got two DIY 5" x 7" Frames. I painted one green and Hazel painted one purple. She has not decided what else she wants to do to hers. I used some of the washi tape to decorate it.

We got the Fun Print Washi Tape Set and Chalkboard Washi Tape. Hazel is so excited about the chalkboard washi tape! I started with two of the washi tapes from the set and made some stripes on my frame. Then I used Mod Podge to seal it and make sure the tape would stay on it. Now I just need a photo to put in it.

Hazel also wanted a tray for her clubhouse. She is still working on this one. We got the DIY Large Wood Tray. She painted the bottom pink and is planning on doing the sides purple. I think she needs another coat of the pink first though.
Stay tuned for an update once she finishes it!

We also got DIY Journals Craft Kit. Each kit has a cover, blank pages and a string to bind it.
We found the string would fray and make it hard to get it through the holes. I solved this by putting some tape around the end (and cutting it off when I was done. Hazel also pointed out that it was easier to do the cover and then open it to do the pages.

After putting them together we decorated them. First we used our pens and markers but then I used some paint as well as the washi tape. From there we took off.

Hazel took one of the washi tape ones and kept going. She had a lot of fun with the chalkboard washi tape and decided this journal would be where she kept her memories of this summer.

In one of the other journals she has drawn an inspiring picture.

I also had some 8" x 10" DIY frames already. I painted one of them with the blue paint. Then I pulled out the Colored Clamrose Sea Shells that we got a previous summer for our Mermaid Play Date. We had some leftover. I hot glued them all over the frame. I hope to get a good photo at the beach this summer to put in it, but until then I made up three different shell/ocean themed printables to put in it. You can get them here (Friends, Ocean, Mermaid) for personal use only!! If you are going to share them, please share through this post!
